In the battle against acne scars removal one detail look of glycolic acid reveals how it can be a critical component to clear smooth skin.

One of the causes of acne is the build up of dead cells within the pores. This prevents proper flow of sebium oil from the sebium glands to the surface of the dermis.
The clogged pore now provides a nesting ground for bacteria and the result is what is commonly known as acne.
In the body’s effort to fight the infection it leaves behind a trace of the battle what we refer to as acne scars, “damaged tissue”.
Glycolic acids comes from the family of alpha-hydroxy acids one of the most effective uses for removing acne scars and it’s ability to go deep under the dermis to eliminate dead skin cells bringing them up to the surface for exfoliation and removal. It can do this because of its small molecular size and its ability to go down the pores of the top dermis layer. Another key benefit is its ability to stimulate collagen. Collagen is a fibrous type of protein that is responsible for binding skin to tissue working together with elastin, it is what keeps skin flexible. By stimulating both of these proteins it also aids in the diminishing of wrinkles, fine lines and dark spots.

Glycolic acid peels are a treatment that your doctor may recommend. Home remedies do not contain more then 10% of glycolic acid because of its ability to burn the skin. With the supervision of your dermatologist a chemical peel contains higher percentage of the active chemical. It is normal for the skin to look red and irritated for a few days. Prepare to take a few days off from work or school to allow for the healing process.
Several treatments may be necessary, your doctor may start you with 10% and increase up to 70%. You can expect to pay $250 to $400 for the total cost of the treatment. For minor acne scars several over the counter products are available. Keep in mind that glycolic acid treatment is a long-term process to remove acne scar. It will take from 6 months to a year to see the full benefits of its results.
